Recent recruit Connor gives us an insight on training as a Surveyor, and as part pf Gill Associates.
“I have been at Gill Associates for coming up to 6 months now, starting my career out in the public sector. For a majority of that time I have been studying part-time for my MSc in Quantity Surveying.”
“Having previously completed a degree full-time, the experience is vastly different to my current part-time course. While studying full time on campus, I had tutors and peers to ask when something wasn’t clear, I now utilise the experience of my colleagues. Its also quite nice to have my studies sponsored, as im sure ill still be paying my current student loan well into my 60’s. It’s also fair to say the social aspects of a full time degree are slightly different to a part-time distance learning programme. Saying that, my current course is certainly the right fit for my current situation.”
“I am very fortunate that I am afforded a day in the office, booked out from my usual duties to study. This day a week allows me to really focus on my studies, while in a professional environment. Yet even with this support, it can still be a struggle to chop and change between work and study. I find myself thinking about calls I need to make or things due later in the week.”
“Gill Associates is the perfect place for me to undertake my training due to the wide variety of work we undertake, ranging from extensions to industrial parks. I get to experience all forms of contractual arrangements, with the support of a Director on every job. Training in a practice with a firm focus on the experience of the client is the perfect place to combine work and study.”
